How Much Should You Tell Your Medium?
One of the questions I get asked most often is:
"When I'm getting a reading, should I tell the medium they're right? Should I share information, or should I stay quiet so I don't influence the reading?"
I love this question because there seems to be a lot of confusion around it.
Let's clear it up.
First, a good reading is a conversation—not an interrogation.
Whether you're sitting with a medium, a psychic, or another intuitive practitioner, the goal isn't for you to sit silently while they perform. The goal is for the two of you to work together so you receive the information, healing, clarity, or comfort you came for.
During a reading, you'll often hear me ask questions like, "Does that make sense?" or "Would you understand that?" I'm not fishing for information. I'm checking to make sure I am interpreting Spirit's communication correctly.
Spirit doesn't usually speak in complete sentences.
They communicate through symbols, memories, emotions, sensations, personalities, and pieces of information that the medium has to interpret. Think of it like a game of spiritual charades. Spirit shows us what they can, and we translate it using our own life experiences, vocabulary, and understanding.
That's why it's perfectly okay to answer "yes" or "no" when you're asked a question. If something doesn't make sense, tell us. If it does, tell us that too. Your feedback helps keep the conversation moving in the right direction.
Where I encourage people to be a little more reserved is before the reading begins.
If you're coming for a mediumship reading, simply telling me you'd like to connect with your dad, grandmother, husband, or friend is plenty. You don't need to tell me how they died, what kind of person they were, or what you're hoping they'll say.
Give Spirit the opportunity to bring forward the evidence and messages they want to share.
Now, if you're booking a spirit guide reading, intuitive mentoring session, or another type of guidance session, that's a little different.
Come prepared with questions.
In fact, I encourage it.
Write them in your phone before your appointment because once the reading begins, it's amazing how quickly those questions disappear from your brain. Spirit often brings forward exactly what you need to hear, but if there's something specific weighing on your heart, don't assume I'll magically know to address it. Ask.
One of the biggest misconceptions people have is believing that mediums and psychics know everything.
We don't.
We're interpreting information as it's being received, and like learning any language, interpretation matters. That's why communication between you, your practitioner, and Spirit is so important.
The best readings aren't the ones where the client says nothing.
They're the ones where everyone leaves feeling like meaningful communication took place.
So if you've ever worried about saying too much—or not saying enough—don't overthink it.
Answer the questions you're asked.
Be honest.
Come prepared when appropriate.
Then relax and let the conversation unfold.
Spirit has a funny way of bringing up exactly what needs to be discussed.
May you always have food on your table, light in your life, and love in your heart.
